Question 1

Where should I place a floor lamp?

Accepted Answer

Beside a sofa or armchair, in a reading corner, or in a dark corner of the room to add height and a layer of warm light.

Question 2

How tall should a floor lamp be?

Accepted Answer

A common rule is that the lower edge of the shade sits around eye level when you are seated, so the bulb does not glare.

Question 3

What is the difference between a floor lamp and an arc lamp?

Accepted Answer

An arc lamp curves over a seating area from a heavy base, so it lights a table or sofa without a ceiling fixture.
